We are all learning to swim. But no longer on the beach. The pandemic has swept us into the sea and eliminated the shore below our feet. We are now in the deep blue sea. Except, this is no vacation and there is no place to return. So the need to swim and embrace the ocean has now become a necessity.
In the business world, very often do we face such incidents which are not in one’s control. However, by building a resilient business any organization can withstand changes and move past a crisis scenario. Matdun is a Canadian startup with business operations in Hyderabad – India, providing intelligent AI-powered and Computer Vision enabled safe living solutions for residential spaces.
As the world mobilizes to mitigate the repercussions of COVID-19, uncertainty abounds. Our thoughts are with families, friends, and communities of those impacted as we continue to monitor closely the impact of coronavirus on the global economy.
At Matdun, we deeply care about entrepreneurship and our heart goes out to businesses directly or indirectly affected by the pandemic. We believe with the right resources and proper planning, we can get ahead of these challenging times.
As I sit back and reflect on this year for us at Matdun, I realize just how formative 2020 was for our company.

Pioneering Today
Since launching in 2019, we have established ourselves as pioneers in the industry by using cutting-edge technology and latest advances in AI and Computer Vision, to build the first of its kind AI-enabled Intelligent Home Security System that is far superior, smarter and secure than traditional home security systems. If nothing else, recent times have re-emphasized the value of a home in our lives. COVID-19 has forced kitchen tables to work overtime, serving as workstations and sometimes as home-schooling desks. As remote work becomes more prevalent, home buyers will want to ensure there are adequate home office and safety features for the entire family. A home is no longer a place we leave each morning only to return in the evening. It is now our centre of control, security and belonging. At Matdun, our goal is to create homes where safety resides, friends are always welcome and families are forever.
Growing for Tomorrow
The pandemic situation has forced many companies to lay off workers and freeze their hiring. ‘People matter’ is easier said than done. Our team is of the firm belief that a company’s success is built around people and every great product in the world would be worthless as now more than ever, people like the experience of doing business with people and less with brands. Thus even during the slowdown, Matdun has continued to bring in top talent from India’s premier engineering and B-schools like the IIT’s, IIM’s and NIT.
We believe we have the unique opportunity to find top-performing employees and leaders during these times because any candidate who has shown a propensity to survive and thrive under stress and pressure has a leg up on the competition. For Matdun to move forward and upward from here – sure, numbers will matter, technology will be important, efficiency is going to be crucial but nothing would matter more than the right people in the team. And hence, we see an advantage in this adversity to grow our team strength today in order to prepare for a brighter tomorrow.
Leading the Way for the Future of Work (and Living)
While this has been a testing year for start-ups, investors and venture capitalists, we are happy to share Matdun was able to raise substantial funding in April 2020 from a global investment firm in USA. As we convinced the investors to sign the cheques to fund the research and development efforts at Matdun, we realized we had a real opportunity there. Showing potential isn’t enough these days. Demonstrating how a product is and will be needed in the new normal and showing that customers are buying it are key to fundraising today. We were able to successfully showcase our expertise, ambition and commitment to build our company which led us to winning the trust of our investment partners.
In the face of crisis, it is often hard to see the forest for trees. Adversities in business offer us an opportunity to rediscover our capabilities, gather our strengths and access our potential that we never knew existed. At Matdun, we are always proud of our team’s constant focus on possibilities that has led to the creation of a resilient business model, enjoying every big and small win during this disruption.
